John Woitkowitz is presenting a paper, ‘Ein unaufhaltsames Streben nach Erkenntnis: Modernity, Science, and the Imperial Geography of August Petermann, 1852-1879’, at the 44th Annual Meeting of the German Studies Association at 09.30, Wednesday 30 September 2020.
The paper discusses the Arctic cartography of August Petermann as a transimperial moment in the re-ordering of geographical knowledge during the second half of the nineteenth century. The presentation is part of the panel entitled “Knowledge, Representation, and Eighteenth and Nineteenth-Century Scientific Thought.” Although originally scheduled to take place in Washington D.C., the conference is now being held completely online.
