John is presenting his research at the Modern European History Research Seminar of the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge on 8 June 2021.
In the talk entitled “Measuring the Arctic: Transimperial Science and the Polar Geography of August Petermann, 1839-1878,” John will present findings from his case study research about the historical theories of an Open Polar Sea and the global entanglements of Arctic cartography in the nineteenth century.
