Liz Walsh spoke to students from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, on ‘Climate Justice in the Circumpolar North’.
Liz explained how popular narratives of the Arctic – many of which have their origins in colonial exploration and expropriation – influence thought on both conservation and resource extraction in the region. Emphasizing that the Arctic should neither be considered an untouched wilderness nor a desolate wasteland, she encouraged students to consider the multiple, complex needs of Indigenous peoples and other populations who call the North home in any work they pursue in the region. Emilie Canova, one of Richard’s PhD students, presented together with Liz.
