Liz Walsh visited the Royal Geographical Society’s Foyle Reading Room to examine a collection of objects related to the nineteenth-century search for John Franklin.
The objects, collected by John Barrow junior and originally donated to the British Museum, were sent to the RGS in 1938 in exchange for a Carthaginian jar. The majority of the objects are models of various scales, including sledges and specialized Arctic travel equipment used by members of several Franklin search expeditions.
